About the artwork

I am drawn to the horizon line. To the edge of the world. Expansive spaces full of possibility. I want to write my future in the sky. I want to run my fingers across the peaks of mountains, reading their profiles like Braille. I want to see the world like an eagle.

I find beauty and solace in the long view.

I visit these places in paint. I feel the color of a place and lay down the acrylic. I carve out a profile with my palette knife. I scrape or smooth its texture. I mold the eternal. I brush against the infinite.

About the artist

I grew up in Dallas, TX, where I began taking art lessons from an artist-neighbor at the age of 5. My parents regularly entered me in local art shows and contests. One year, I won “Best in Show” at the State Fair of Texas for an oil-pastel still life.

Then in my second year at Princeton University, I had to choose a major. After deep deliberation, I did not choose Art History with a Studio Art component, but Economics. And my path for the next two decades was chosen. I worked at Internet start-ups, got an MBA from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, started my own business, and while I continued to paint and make art, it was only ever a way to relax, to engage with a different part of myself.

And then I had a child, and I discovered my business-self and my parenting-self could not coexist. The pull to art had never left me, and so first, I took a half-step toward it - I started an art business, an after-school art program. Then the pandemic hit. And I found the time I was able to steal for myself in my art studio gave me the strength and the peace to get through everything else. I changed. My art changed. And I committed to the truth that the work I want to be doing in the world is artwork.
